医学家.江苏常州人.1937年毕业于北平燕京大学,获理学学士学位.1942年毕业于北平协和医学院,获医学博士学位.中国医学科学院名誉院长、北京医科大学泌尿外科研究所名誉所长、中国协和医科大学名誉校长、泌尿外科教授.“肾结核对侧肾积水”的研究使一些无法挽救的肾结核患者得到回复,在国内外医疗实践中得到证实.对输精管结扎开创用手术灌注远段精道的技术,使手术即时产生避孕效果.肾上腺髓质增生的研究在医学上确立了一种新的疾病,收到国际上的重视和承认.肾切除后留存肾代价性增长的研究,纠正了对肾切除长期存在的一种不全面的认识.
1980年当选为中国科学院院士（学部委员）.

Born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.Graduated with BS from Beiping Yenching University in 1937 and MD from Peking Union Medical College in 1942.Professor of urology and honorary president,Chinese Academy of Medical Science,honorary director,Institute of Urology,Beijing Medical University,and honorary president,Peking Union Medical College.
Wu’s research on “contralateral hydronephrosis in renal tuberculosis”sed a large number of patients suffering from this condition which was considered incurable.His method of diagnosis and treatment of such patients was accepted by the medical munity.He improved the technique of vasectomy for sterilization by an added instillation of the disal seminal tract to effect immediate sterilization.His studies on adrenal medullary hyperplasia confirmed that this is a new disease-entity,which drew close attention internationally.His study of pensatory growth of the remaining kidney after nephrectomy has conclusively proven that the present concept on nephrectomy requires modification.
